Third Party Company ADMITS to attempting to influence our Review System
Here at System Insight we are very proud of the way in which we deal with our customers. We aim to be honest and truthful about all the products we sell, so that the customer can make an informed decision.
We do not accept any sponsorship for advertisements on our website and our Event Photography training courses are completely independent, even though we could sell more equipment if we were more ruthless in our marketing activities. We like to think that our customers will remain loyal because of the honest and respectful way in which we treat them.
As part of this philosophy, we have an independent Review System for people to leave their own reviews of the equipment that they use.
We never change any review and will only add a small editor's note to correct any information that is erroneous or to provide additional information.
However.........
Recently we noticed that a negative review had been left about a Sony Dye Sub Photo Printer. The customer had had several printers, all with the same problem, over a year long period. They went on to say:
"Based on my experience with this unit, I could not honestly recommend it to
anyone.
I consider that it is a flawed design which needs to be addressed by
the manufacturer" |
After awhile, we received another review that had been left about the same printer.
In contrast this review was very positive indeed and the user even stated that:
"I had used other non Sony Dye Sub printers and wouldn't want to use any other manufactures printers now." |
We found this a little strange coming in the wake of the other review and our suspicions were aroused. However upon careful inspection and a little research, it appears that the person leaving the review was actually someone in the industry who had often run Sony Sponsored Seminars on their Dye Sub Printers.
Although this person does use Sony Products, we felt their close involvement in Sony Sales Promotions and Seminars may not be reflecting the totally unbiased angle we were looking for in our reviews.
We then couldn't believe this....
Of further concern, was an email that we received a week or so later; it was from a company that sells these Sony printers. In their email they admitted to asking this person to leave a positive review.
The email, which was from their marketing manager, totally amazed us as it clearly admitted to asking the person in question to leave a positive review to counteract the negative one and so show the Sony Printer in a much more positive light.
So, of course, we decided not to include this review in our Review System. However, we have reproduced the review for balance, but ask the reader to bear in mind the comments we have made above.
At System Insight we really do aim to provide fair, honest and truthful advice and let the customer make their own mind up without outside interference.
We have also included a copy of the email, which we received that clearly admits asking the customer not only to leave a review, but to leave a positive review to counteract the negative one previously left.
So, when you next come to buy a new Dye Sub Photo Printer, give a little thought on who you would prefer to deal with...
Review left on our System (Not included in the star rating scheme):
"When we first used the Sony UP-DR150 (Straight out of the box)we were amazed at the quality of the prints. For many years I have used other non Sony Dye Sub printers for eventing and in all honesty wouldn't want to use any other manufactures printers now. We have a few of these printers and are extremly satisfied with their quality, reliability and performance. Printing is fast and sharp. The printer handles shadow areas brilliantly and if there is any text to be printed on or over the images this always is very crisp. I would certainly recommend this printer to any professional or upcoming event photographers. In fact we utilise the printers in our studio too!" |
Email from the company.
"I work as the Marketing Manager of www.p*******t.co.uk, a company that is a dealer of dye sub printers.
We'd like to find out what we can do to balance a negative posting on your website about SONY's UP-DR150 printer.
We asked a notable UP-DR150 user, the photographer ********, if he could submit a review to balance the existing one, and he was kind enough to do this, however the review has not appeared on your site yet.
When you are back around again, could you contact me about this please? We'd love to see the UP-DR150 get fairer treatment, as I'm sure you would yourselves."
