Rechargeable Batteries
What you should know before you buy .
|
Overview - What you need to know
Rechargeable batteries come in different types, capacities and physical size.
Types of Battery: Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd / NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) and Lithium Ion (Li-Ion); the names define what the battery is made of. Nickel Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride are usually the types used for "standard" battery types. Lithium Ion is usually used in Laptop, Camcorder & Digital Camera Batteries.
Some types of batteries are more suitable for certain applications than others. Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium Ion are more suited for high power applications.
Battery Capacity
This is measured in Milliamps per Hour (mAh) and denotes the "capacity" of the battery. A 2500mAh battery will last approximately 2.5 times longer after a full charge than a 1000mAh version.
Battery Size
This is the physical size of the battery e.g. AA, AAA, C, D etc. Some manufacturers use a different sizing guide e.g. an AA battery is sometimes called LR6, Mignon, MN1500.
Nickel Cadmium Batteries (Ni-Cd / Nicads)
Our range includes the most widely used rechargeable Nickel Cadmium batteries. These batteries are of high quality and offer long term reliability, excellent value for money and consistent performance for the most demanding consumer usage.
Top quality premium cells are used for exceptional durability and performance.
Extended capacity batteries, our top-line cells have 40-50% more capacity than other commonly available Ni-Cd cylindrical cells of the same size.
Standard charge and fast/rapid charge compatibility:
Our batteries provide exceptional flexibility and user convenience and can be used with our fast chargers. Most other Nicad (Nickel Cadmium) batteries can only be slow charged 12-18 hours.
Long service life: Depending on usage conditions these batteries may provide 300-1000 charge/discharge cycles making them very cost effective.
High reliability: Our entire range of Ni-Cd batteries are produced from the best available materials and using state of the art technology, allowing them to perform with outstanding reliability. Like all NiCad batteries they will display "memory effect" if not completely discharged / recharged. If you application doesn't allow this then it may be worth using Nickel Metal Hydride batteries that don't suffer from this.
Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
Nickel Metal Hydride - The thinking person's rechargeable! Environmentally friendly without any of the disposal problems associated with other types of battery technology.
Marginally more expensive, the Ni-MH is superior value for money, out-performing rival rechargeables in all aspects. Running times are often extended by 300% and will even exceed alkaline batteries.
Partial usage, followed by recharging, creates no problems associated with "memory" effects; unlike Nickel Cadmium (Nicads) Batteries.
With all rechargeable batteries the key to exploiting their potential is to accurately match the charger with the characteristics of the battery.
With 21st century technology cells you need 21st century chargers. Our new breed of Fast chargers individually monitor cells for temperature and negative Delta Vee peaks, making it impossible to overcharge, but guaranteeing optimum performance every charge.
