A week in the life of a fledgling Event Photographer…
I am a Lifestyle photographer specialising in portraiture having made the decision to change careers earlier this year. I was asked by a portrait client if I wanted to photograph their event ball with 600 guests. Not having done such an event before I booked myself on a System Insight event training day with Stuart Morley and Mike Orr.
In the week prior to the event I had spent a bit of time on the phone with both Stuart and Mike and found them both to be extremely helpful and forthcoming so I was looking forward to the training day itself.
Sunday 8th October
Drive to Hampshire to stay overnight so that I am nice and fresh for my System Insight training day on Monday. It’s my wedding anniversary but I tell my wife that we will celebrate when I get back!
Monday 9th October
Arrive at the venue in Shirrell Heath. Very impressed with the professional set up and there is as much free cappuccino as I can drink!
Throughout the day, Stuart and Mike provide us all with a real “insight” into what it takes to be a successful event photographer. Impartial advice is given on subjects such as how to get fed on the night (more on that later!), which printer choices to make, with the plus and minus points explained for each set up and how to deal with the customers.
