Sony has recently launched its UP-DR200 Photo Printer which is a replacement for the UP-DR150 Photo Printer. Sony has at last addressed some of the shortcomings of the UP-DR150 although strangely the printer still is unable to print a 6"x9" photo, with the maximum size being still only 6"x8".
The New Sony UP-DR200 now allows media to be loaded in from the front, which nows means that it can be installed in a flight case and not need to be removed for a media change.
The Sony UP-DR200. And it introduces a paper that is similar in texture to traditional photography paper. It prints in four sizes (3.5x5, 4x6, 5x7 and 6x8) in a hurry, knocking out 4x6 prints at a rate of 450 per hour. That's clipping along at a print every 8 seconds, or a 5x7 in about 10.5 seconds. The workhorse also holds 30 percent more prints on a roll, i.e. 700 prints per roll at 4x6, although this increases the weight of the printer with media installed. The UP-DR200 replaces the UP-DR150.
The UP-DR200 offers two surface finishes ProMatte and glossy using the same media print pack. The different finishes are produced by the printer¹s unique lamination technology, eliminating the need to change the paper or the ink ribbon to change the finish. Please note however we have noticed that the top layer of the print can be easily scratched which is something that is not found on other dye sub printers.
Like the UP-DR150 the UP-DR200 will print four different paper sizes: 3.5x5", 4x6", 5x7" and 6x8". It doesn't however print the now common 6"x9" size which is used by a large number of modern digital cameras, this seems another oversight by Sony.
Paper roll and ink ribbon handling are easier than ever before. Simply open the front door and insert the roll of paper and the ribbon. The printing surface is on the inside of the paper roll, helping to prevent fingerprints during the insertion and eliminate curling of the roll and wasted feed.

The UP-DR200 creates crisp and vibrant prints with natural, continuous tones. It offers four different print packs: 9 x 13 cm (3 1/2 x 5 inch), 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch), 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7 inch), and 15 x 20 cm (6 x 8 inch).
