Printing Photos using DPOF Need your prints in a hurry? Happy to select which prints you want on your camera without deleting any imgaes? Then use DPOF, available on all Stand-alone HiTi Photo Printers.
What is DPOF?
DPOF stands for
Digital Print Order Format and is a built-in function that some digital cameras use to make it easier for you to print large numbers of pictures. You use the DPOF function on your digital camera to select which pictures you want to print and the number of copies of each required. This information is marked on each picture file stored on your memory card. When you insert your card into a Photo printer or hand it over to a Print Shop that supports this, the information is checked and the photos you requested are automatically printed.
Why would I use DPOF?
Essentially it is a time saver, but it also makes it easier to print pictures if you do not have a PC or Macintosh. For example, let's say you had a number of pictures stored on your memory card and you went to a Print Shop to get them developed. If your camera didn't have a DPOF function built in, then you would either have to specifically tell the developers which pictures you wanted to print, or you would have to delete all the pictures on your card that you didn't want printed out. This would be a little inconvenient if there were pictures on your card you wanted to keep, but didn't want printed out at that moment in time and you didn't have an alternative place to store them; (such as a Laptop or Desktop PC). This function also makes it quicker to print pictures on a Photo Printer that supports this function.
How do I use It?
Normally your camera will have an option in its menu system that will allow you to mark a picture with DPOF information. Assuming your camera supports this function fully, DPOF will mark your pictures with the following information. Some cameras will only mark some of this information on your pictures depending on what information you have stored in your camera's settings and the depth to which your camera supports DPOF:
Print Control Information: The DPOF allows for specification of the number of prints, print size, index print, existence of date, title and text entered, trimming, and rotation.
Equipment/User Information: Information about equipment such as camera, date and time are recorded. User information such as user's name, address, phone number can also be recorded.
To print pictures on a HiTi Photo Printer, once you have used your camera to mark which pictures you want to print, remove the card from the camera, place the card into the appropriate memory card slot on the front of the printer and using the controller select DPOF from the eight menu options that appear. The controller will then alert you to the total number of images that have been DPOF marked. Simply press the Print button on the controller and your photos will be printed automatically. It's that easy!
